Private Exursion – Lake Kournas
The Lake Kournas in Crete, is situated in a magnificent location, just 4km away from Georgioupoli, Chania and very close to Rethymno. The relaxing and beautiful landscape is ideal for nature lovers and it is a protected area by the Natura 2000 Network.
An old myth said that the lake has no bottom. A second myth states that there was a village in the position of the lake, where a beautiful girl lived with her father. One day, her father admired her and tried to seduce his daughter. The desperate girl starting shouting “Lake come and I will be the ghost of the lake”.
The area immediately sank and flooded with water, creating the lake. The locals say that the fairy protects the animals and the ducks of the lake.
